When the Jedi modified the Kuat Systems Cloakshape fighters to develop their 2-to-3 person, small transport, a number of other organisations across the galaxy looked at the modified craft and considered their use as atmospheric commando insertion craft. The LEC Darkcloaks are distinctive due to their modified black surface covering and sensor jamming equipment which gives opponents a -5 sensor mask equipment penalty to perception or targetting attempts at long range and a -2 against similar attempts in space at other ranges or at night.
As a result, the DarkCloaks are used by the 782 squadron as support craft for the Headhunters, but regularly to insert commando teams (of up to 8 personnel if all four DarkCloaks are used) in potentially hostile areas around the Nebula. Whilst cramped, the addition of a little more cargo space was possible with a slightly extended nose and the removal of a concussion missile launch tube.
