Nebula Major Organisations Medj'K'ai Nebula Star Wars

Medj'k'ai Nebula - Major Organisations

There are a variety of organisations who operate within the Medj'K'ai Nebula, but who are rarely heard of outside the Outer Rim. These range from "simple" trading collectives to major manufacturers. The Jedi, of course, have a training enclave. The following provides a little information about each organisation and its facilities within the Nebula.

-
Losshaven Engineering Corporation - Medj'K'ai Nebula Mercantile Combine - Keysh'kar Dance School - Crime: Turuma the Hutt - Crime: CloudDancers - Jedi Training Enclave -

Losshaven Engineering Corporation (LEC)

The LEC is 35% owned by the powerful D'mas family, whose prominent members include planetary governers and the Sector Governer himself. The LEC is the principal engineering corporation within the Nebula, having most of its manufacturing base on Losshaven, where minerals and metals are in good supply, and a shipyard orbiting Junction. There are smaller manufacturing and administration plants on all the planets int he Nebula, however, including a a major design shop on Amanus utilising the reknowned Mon Calamari design skills.

The company is far and away the most powerful and largest corporation in this region of the galaxy. Size is relative, however: compared with the massive organisations in the Corporate Sector, or with the Corellian and Kuat shipyards, the LEC is small. Nonetheless, within this area of space, LEC dominates electrical, mechanical, electronic, droid, starship and vehicle manufacturers.

The LEC design style is focussed towards its buyers: the people of the Nebula. Whilst its technology may not be the most up-to-date, it is often sturdy and more readily repairable than other corporations equipment, something which its cash-starved consumers appreciate. (In game terms this normally translates as a +2 bonus to Repair attempts, but a -2 penalty on rolls to use the equipment, such as pilot a starship or speederbike.)

The LEC could be considered a faction within the nebula - ask your GM if sympathy with such a faction is interesting to you or supported in your campaign.

Medj'K'ai Nebula Mercantile Combine (MNMC)

Apparently a breakaway offshoot of the Trade Federation prevalent throughout much of the Core and Rim, the MNMC claim to be a non-affiliated, separate organisation which has rejected the acts of the Federation in its association with the Separatist movement and the Clone Wars. It claims to be ready to comply with, and support, the local law-enforcement agencies. Nominally then, at least, it is against the Separatists.

The fact that there is no local law-enforcement agency able to stand up to the MNMC's two or three hub cruisers and 5 or 6 medium container freighters does not escape the notice of many intelligent observers within the Medj'K'ai Nebula: it is too dispersed and scarcely populated to support major naval craft. Whilst in reality the MNMC appears neutral, merely trading with the Federation when it is advantageous to do so and declining trade when it is obviously in support of the Separatists, rumours abound the MNMC is still actually associated with the Trade Federation.

Many observers believe the MNMC is in a close - and sometimes clandestine - corporate alliance with the Losshaven Engineering Corporation.

The MNMC may be considered a faction in the Nebula - ask your GM if sympathy with such a faction is interesting to you or supported in your campaign.

Keysh'kar Dance School

Owned by the reknowned philanthropist, Y'vaath Slaar, the dance school is located in his compound on the Keysh'kar equator. The schools reputation reputation is second to none: Twi'lek dancers come from all the surrounding sectors to train and advance in the seductive arts of Twi'lek and Lekku dance. The school is also famed for its theatre and one troupe, a group of freed Chev, now perform throughout the region.

Criminal Organisations

Turuma the Hutt

Turuma the Hutt's crime "syndicate" is rumoured to operate within the Nebula, some law enforcement agencies claiming he is behind much of the major and organised crime in this sector. Smugglers are said to pay him protection money or "taxes" to be allowed to operate in the Nebula; even major traders are rumoured to pay him protection money to buy off - or protect themselves - from well-armed pirates.

As always, the truth is hard to find. Few are willing to come forward and act as witnesses against him, whilst other witnesses have come forward claiming he has virtually nothing to do with crime in the Nebula, even that the pirate groups are independent. It is known he runs some of the low-level crime (petty drugs, minor smuggling), but given such a dearth of evidence for major crime, his (or someone's) organisation continues to operate.

The CloudDancers

Known as one of the major Criminal networks in the Nebula, it is not known who runs the Cloud Dancers. Rumours abound that Turuma the Hutt is at its head, but no financial or forensic trace has been found to prove this. Whoever runs the CloudDancers is a professional, with a cunning and ruthless streak which has confounded law-enforcement agencies for some time.

The CloudDancers are rumoured to have a variety of specialised functions, each with a separate name and semi-independent organisation: the "DeathDancers" are top assassins; the "NightDancers" top prowlers and thieves; the "DataDancers", top slicers. Whatever their real names, and to whoever they owe their allegiance, the ‘Dancers reputation is sinister and one invoking fear.

Jedi Training Enclave (the Keysh'kar Jedi College)

High in the snowy wastes of northern Keysh'kar, the Jedi Training Academy specialises in cold-weather survival and starfighter piloting/astrogation skills. There is also said to be a thriving research establishment supporting several hundred scholars, technicians and librarians. The Enclave is also the main home of the Jedi within the Nebula.

It is located in a deep glacial valley, needing careful piloting to land in (!) and is surrounding by mountainous peaks. Much of the college is built into the walls of the mountain slopes on either side, with the Starfighters and landing bay's cut on terraces on the lower slopes. Whilst the bottom of the valley still supports an active glacier, the crevasse-ridden, tortured and impacted ice-terrain is used as a constantly varying excercise arena, often coupled with the need to climb to cover a given route.

Despite it's location, the College is comfortable and warm inside, with panoramic views from the main halls across the valley.
